Getting to Simple, Easy, and Effortless.

“What if the biggest thing keeping us from doing what matters is the false assumption that it has to take tremendous effort? What if, instead, we considered the possibility that the reason something feels hard is that we haven’t yet found the easier way to do it?”

― Greg McKeown, Effortless: Make It Easy to Get the Right Things Done.

We have often heard the saying, “Go Big or Go Home”, and most often people believe this to be true. In the process of chasing ‘Big’, people more often get stuck in a complicated, tougher process, and most often give up along the way, or don’t even begin.

It does not have to be this way. There are so many examples of success stories that prove this belief wrong. It is the opposite. Starting and sustaining the process of change and growth, then simple, small, easy, and effortless is key.

1. Easy and Effortless starts with what is essential:

“Many things are good, many are important, but only a few are essential.” D. Todd Christofferson

Essential is defined as necessary; extremely important; fundamental; of the utmost importance; and inherent.

Most important is to figure out what is essential to us. We may have 100 items on our bucket list. But, when we ask ourselves, “What has the most value and is most important to us”, then this list is cut down by 90 percent. Just by taking this simple step, we have eliminated a lot of non-essential activities from our lives, that have either low value or zero value for us and our families.

Using this approach distills our life down to a few key vital essentials. This is what we really should be truly focussing on.

2. Being Strategic in our pathway to our goals is key.

The 80/20 principle is that 80 percent of our results come from 20 percent of the causes. So, we have to constantly ask ourselves, what are the vital few that will give us the best results?

Once we have distilled this list, we have to go even further. To achieve what is on the list, does not require us to do a lot of different things. Pareto’s principle works so beautifully here, we only need to find the few key 20 percent of activities that give us the 80 percent best results, and either outsource, reduce or eliminate the rest.

3. Simple and Small is often the easiest doorway to daily progress.

“The way to create something great is to create something simple.”

― Richard Koch, the 80/20 Principle: The Secret to Achieving More with Less

Taking it slow, simple, and small the first time you are starting something is key to maintaining consistency. If we want to run a marathon, going out and buying the most expensive walking shoes, and gear adds more stress and overwhelms the system. The simplest way to start it put on our shoes, walk three steps, and then scale naturally day by day.

So, let’s remember that change and growth does not have to be a hard, difficult and joyless process. Real, inspired and sustained change comes with achievable in small, steady, and simple steps taken daily.

Hope this is helpful in your Shine Journey to be inspired, learn, grow, get better and improve the quality of our not just own lives, but our families, and the world around us, in small, simple, and easy ways.

Remember, Shine starts with small, and if sustained daily, becomes significant over time.

Shine On, by God’s grace, and wishing you the best to inspire and help others shine as well!
