Learn the top three ways to identify, align and schedule your top priorities.

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities” – Stephen Covey.

Here are some key ideas on how to do set priorities in our lives:

1. Our priorities come from our deepest values and beliefs about ourselves, the world, and who we want to be.

“Values are like lighthouses; they are like signals giving us direction.” – UnKnown.

Take a little time to think about your deepest values. What is it that you care most about? What do you spend a lot of time doing and enjoying? For some people, caring for the environment is something that they deeply care about and value. It’s a key indicator that creating time to spend in nature, and tending to nature would be a key priority for them. For some people, working at home is a key priority as they value spending time with family or perhaps are taking care of a loved one. For some religious people, spending time studying their scripture is a key priority.

When we know our deepest values, we can identify our highest priorities.

2. Creating an aligned vision for our future helps us focus on what’s important.

“Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.” – James Cash Penney

We have different life areas: Finances, work, family, relationships, communities, health, etc.

However, we cannot approach these areas and look at them separately or independently of each other. They are all life vehicles and pathways to propel us towards our best future selves. So, all these life areas must align with our highest vision, and the goal we would like to achieve.

When we can see and imagine a bright vision for ourselves, then we need to align our life to work towards that vision of our future selves.

3. Design a simple, system to work on our priorities daily.

“Action expresses priorities” – Mahatma Gandhi.

Having priorities without taking action on them is having no priorities at all. Taking action is key. We have to take the time to develop a few key habits to take small actions on our priorities daily. Once, we kick-start the habit, then they gain momentum and we start to scale naturally. If making a positive contribution to help make the world a better place is key, then taking the time to set aside daily for that action is key. Taking daily action is the keystone to developing consistent daily habits.

So, let’s start thinking about what is truly important in our lives, and start planting our priority seeds for growth and transformation.

Hope this is helpful in your Shine Journey to be inspired, learn, grow, get better and shine a little brighter, not just in our own lives, but in our families and the world around us, in small, simple, and easy ways.
