Human beings have been journaling whether with text or drawings since the earliest times. The earliest journaling is on cave walls more than 10,000 years ago. Some of the greatest kings, statesmen, and leaders have kept a daily journal.
Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, keep a journal, later published as “Meditations” that has been widely read all over the world. They were essentially his thoughts on life and U.S President John. F. Kennedy was known to keep a journal to help him think better, especially during decision-making periods.
Top 3 reasons journaling can be a great transformational tool to help you shine.
1. Helps to bring the inside out, brings clarity, and understand ourselves better:
“Journaling, simply defined, is telling the story of lives, to ourselves.”
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” – William Wordsworth
Most of the time, all of us have a million thoughts swirling around in our minds. However, when we start capturing those thoughts and putting them down on paper, something changes.
“A journal is your completely unaltered voice.” – Lucy Dacus
Journaling sends a signal to ourselves, that we exist, and our existence is meaningful enough to capture. Journaling is a dialogue with ourselves.
Journaling is capturing the inner conversation taking place that engages our mind, body, heart, and soul. It brings our deepest desires visible for us to see, and pursue, and it helps us to make sense of what we see, feel, and experience in our daily lives.
When we write, we truly come alive.
2. Helps to re-wire our inner narrative and our subconscious.
“Journal writing, when it becomes a ritual for transformation, is not only life-changing but life-expanding.” – Jen Williamson
When we write, we imprint deeply into our subconscious. And we write our goals, our dreams our hopes every day onto paper often turns on a lightbulb and ignites a spark within us to go after those dreams that we seem to care so much about.
3. Helps to keep us focussed on our biggest priorities.
“I write in a journal daily. This extraordinary ritual has revolutionized my mindset, transformed my heart set, and generally influenced my life exponentially.” – Robin Sharma.
When we write the most important dreams in our lives daily, it signals to ourselves, what we need to focus on. We learn to separate the essential and important from the distractions, and the noise. We can find daily momentum, energy, and focus for our most important priorities.
So, let’s pick up that pad and pen and start journaling our thoughts, ideas, dreams, and desires, even if we only start with a doodle.
“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” – Louis L’Amour
Hope this is helpful in your Shine Journey to be inspired, learn, grow, get better and improve the quality of our not just own lives, but our families, and the world around us, in small, simple, and easy ways.
Remember, Shine starts with small, and if sustained daily, becomes significant over time.
Shine On, and wishing you the best to inspire and help others shine as well!
